Alocasia Macrorrhiza - The Elephant Ear
The elephant ear plants are grown on Nova Kaeru's land and in collaboration with local independent farmers who are active in reforestation projects. !e plant thrives along the riverbanks and forest edges of Brazil's Atlantic rainforest - growing freely, regenerating rapidly, asking nothing of the land it inhabits. Each leaf spans up to 4 square meters — an entire panel of natural material from a single plant.

"You cut off the bigger leaves and the plant continues to produce more leaves," says Nova Kaeru's founder. The harvest is purely circular - the plant regenerates its leaves, therefore no plant is removed in the harvesting process. A material that gives and gives, season after season, with the forest entirely intact.

Low Input. Vast E"ect. Zero Toxins.
Nova Kaeru developed a tanning method called LIVE™ - Low Input Vast Effect that is free of heavy metals and transforms their materials into long-lasting luxury products. The process uses only resins and organic polymers of vegetable origin. The residues are composted and used as nutrients for the soil. The water used in transformation is pH corrected and reusedas irrigation for the reforestation farms. Nothing wasted. Everything returned.

Nova Kaeru is based in Três Rios - a town approximately 100 km from Rio de Janeiro - and works alongside local independent farmers, environmental preservation institutes, and reforestation partners. The company works with indigenous people in Brazil to harvest leaves and put them through an eco-friendly tanning process.
